Pre-Production/ Treatment:
Before we left for reading week, as a group we had a meeting to discuss the Treatment assignment.
We had agreed on allocating specific areas of this assignment to different people in our group. I was in charge of writing about the locations for our film.
We all wanted to do at least a paragraph for our chosen topic.
For my chosen topic of locations I had looked back on our current decisions of different scenes that were going to be within our film and the locations which we had already set and ones that we had discussed as a possibility.
I chose to separate my locations topic into scenes/situations. Where for each specified scene I would depict where it is occurring.
Each of us were then to send our finished pieces to Thomas Stowell so he could put them together and edit any unwanted pieces before we hand it for assessment. We chose Tom due to his good writing skills and because it was hard to come together as a group in whole over reading week. however before we hand it in we shall assess the overall piece as a group once more.
The scenes that I covered in the locations par of our treatment were: The waking up scene, call scene, the walk, Time travel and attempted suicide, the cure acquirement and the action sequence.
The locations that I used for these were: Elliot dorm, Elliot kitchen, Elliot bridge and The university of Kent's grocery shop, Trees and pond location at university of Kent. Where further locations could be Stacey lab, Elliot car park, the fields at university of Kent as well as the walk way west of Jenison.
I choose these locations after having explored the campus for suitable locations and those of which are easily accessible to us.
Both me and Thomas Stowell went around to look at the specified locations.
I went to Toms dorm since he lives in the Elliot building and thought it was a suitable location since it is a small room with a shared toilet and kitchen. I found this to be a good location since it may depict a bad living condition if the room was an apartment rather than a Uni dorm.
After this I checked the Elliot bridge leading out from his dorm. It will make a good area to film both the fight scene/ chase scene Since it has an overhead angle on the parking lot and also an under view of the bridge which depicts a sketchy, maybe drug available area . Furthermore since the bridge is fairly long , a Zolly style angle shot ( Shot which zooms outwards) would be suitable here for when the character is walking.
After I checked the bridge and parking lot, I walked to the shop. Since it is a fairly populated area for university students I found it would be an ideal shot to create the idea of a town with population. A wide shot could be useful here since when we checked it out, the shop itself was fairly large and with a wider shot we can observe more people.
Lastly Tom and I explored the Forest and swamp area. The pond was fairly large and we found that the area was really muddy so when we are to record this scene we have to watch ourselves for health and safety reasons. Other than this the whole area was dark and shady, Great for a sad/ tense moment in our film.
After all of this had been explored and examined, I wrote my section of the treatment to send to Tom.
This process was required for our film since the set is what makes the scene for each part of the film where it brings emotion and a sense of how the actor is feeling. It also sets location for each event.
We could also observe how we were going to film each scene as for angles and filming method , as well as conclude o what could be some possible editing methods and sound effects we could include in each area.
Remember to show me what you are doing and not just describe it - show me the rationale and your research and develpopment
ReplyDeleteThank you for your feedback Helen, I will work on updating my posts and covering these fields a bit better.
